About Us

Local ADU knowledge, without the guesswork

ADU Regulations exists to make one thing simple: figuring out what you're allowed to build, and who can build it for you.

Our mission

Accessory dwelling unit rules differ block by block, city by city - there's no single national ADU code, and every city writes its own, many of which have changed significantly in the past few years. Homeowners shouldn't need a law degree to figure out whether they can add an ADU to their property.

We built ADU Regulations to put that information in one place, in plain language, and to connect homeowners who are ready to move forward with local contractors who know the local codes inside and out.

What we do

  • Summarize city-by-city ADU zoning rules - size limits, setbacks, permits, and fees - in one place
  • Match homeowners with local, vetted ADU contractors, free of charge
  • Give contractors a steady stream of homeowners who are actually ready to build

A note on accuracy

Zoning codes change, and every lot has its own quirks. The rules on this site are summarized for convenience from official city sources - always confirm current requirements with your city's building department before designing or applying for permits.
